An AI visibility tool is accurate when its numbers come from answers ChatGPT and other AI assistants really gave to your customers’ questions, and you can open those answers yourself. Anything about how many people ask or how much traffic AI sends you is an estimate, because AI companies publish none of that.
Reachd is built on the first kind of data only. It asks the assistants the same customer questions every day, keeps every answer, and treats a recommendation as working only once the assistants start answering differently.
Which AI visibility data is real and which is estimated
Here’s what a typical dashboard mixes together:
| What the tool shows | Where it comes from |
|---|---|
| Whether AI named your business | Measured in the answer |
| Your place in the list next to competitors | Measured in the answer |
| What AI says about you and your competitors | Measured in the answer |
| Sites AI cited as sources | Measured in the answer |
| How many people ask a question (prompt volume) | Estimated from user panels |
| Reach or traffic from AI | Estimated, apart from visits in your own analytics |
The estimates can help size a market. To know whether AI sends customers to you or to a competitor this week, you need the measured rows, and the six questions below show whether a tool really has them.
1. Can you open the answer behind every number?
If a tool says a competitor is ahead of you, you should be able to see what the assistant actually said.
Reachd keeps every answer and shows you the words AI uses about you and about each competitor recommended ahead of you. Very often the reason you lose sits right there in those words.
2. Are the questions the same from one day to the next?
A number can rise because AI recommends you more, or because the tool started asking more questions. Only the first one means anything for your business.
Reachd asks the same set of customer questions every day, so when your standing moves, the answers moved. We’ve written in more detail about how to measure AI visibility and why a rising count can fool you.
3. Does it tell a good morning from a real trend?
Assistants write every answer fresh, and a business named on Tuesday can be gone on Wednesday with nothing changed.
A medical cannabis clinic we work with had a morning when every assistant named it on a question it usually wins with most of them. It looked like a breakthrough, and we reported it as one good day until the following mornings showed whether it held. A tool that celebrates every spike will also scare you with every dip.
4. Do the questions sound like your customers?
Accuracy on the wrong questions is still the wrong picture. “Best custom cabinets in Tampa” and “who gives a lifetime warranty on kitchen cabinets” are different questions with different winners, and a tool that asks a few generic ones will miss both.
Reachd builds the questions from your services, your cities and the way buyers in your category actually ask, and tracks each city separately if you serve more than one.
5. Does “done” mean the assistants changed their answers?
This one is easy to miss. Many tools let you mark a recommendation as done with a click, and from then on the dashboard shows progress whether or not anything changed in the answers.
In Reachd a recommendation closes only when the assistants show the change took effect, for example when the assistant that ignored you starts naming you on those questions. There’s no button to close it by hand, and the changelog explains how that works.
So when a result in Reachd says you moved up, the assistants moved you. A new kitchen showroom in Miami was absent from every answer on March 11, and six weeks later it was the most recommended of its Miami competitors. Four months after the work stopped it was still first of the 61 businesses AI names in its category, each step counted from the answers.
6. Can you check if an AI visibility tool is accurate on your own business?
The fastest accuracy test is your own business, because you already know your competitors and your customers.
Your first full Reachd analysis is free, no card needed. Add your website and you’ll see how often AI recommends you, the words it uses about you and your competitors, and what to change first to get ahead of them. If it matches what you know about your market, a subscription keeps it going every day and tells you each morning about the next change worth making.
If you’re weighing several tools, we compared nine of them on price and limits in our guide to how to choose an AI visibility tool.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why do different AI visibility tools show different results for the same business?
They ask different questions, from different locations, on different days. Two honest tools can disagree, and the one whose questions match your real customers is the one to trust.
Is AI referral traffic in Google Analytics accurate?
It's real, and it runs low. Visits from chatgpt.com and similar sites show up, but many people read the answer and then call you or search your name, and those visits look like ordinary traffic.
What is an AI citation?
It's a source an assistant links to or relies on when it answers, such as your website, a directory or a review site. Citations show you which pages AI trusts in your category.
